Heavily Peated Highland Single Malt Scotch made by Edradour Distillery

The third part of the Ballechin series, this was matured in a port hogshead for the duration of its life, bottled in May 2008 as part of a release of 6,000 bottles.

A superb and unusual Highland whisky, Ballechin is heavily peated Edradour, and this is the 6th release in the range, aged in a bourbon cask. Very tasty!

Nose: Light, musty smoke, hints of farmyards, vanilla spice, gentle peat, forest floors and pepper.

Palate: Smoky and nutty, some marzipan, hazelnut, custard, olive oil and lapsang souchong.

Finish: Herbal, floral and toasty, some vanilla and oak.

A peated whisky from the Edradour distillery, this Ballechin was named for a lost distillery in the region, and was aged in red wine casks from Bordeaux.

Nose: Hot and spiced nose with engine oil, cooked apricots with honey, peat smoke, cut hay and pepper.

Palate: Very peaty palate with cranberries, manuka honey, blueberry jam, black pepper, cinnamon pastries, nutmeg…

Finish: Long and peaty finish with port wine and spice.

Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky

”A new addition to the permanent Balvenie range. Lovely bright gold color. Layers of sweetness (the characteristic Balvenie honey, along with vanilla fudge, nougat and rich toffee) peppered with dried spice and a hint of tropical fruit (papaya, guava, tangerine). Great viscosity with good grip on the finish. I really like the balance in this whisky-nice complexity too! A very solid effort and the price is right.”

One of the classic after-dinner malts, Balvenie Doublewood’s extra complexity and richness are a result of a second maturation in fresh sherry casks. Great stuff.

Islay Single Malt Scotch

Bowmore 12 has a place in many hearts as Islay’s ‘medium-peated’ malt. A pronounced iodine character with plenty of pepper, yet the malt is balanced and smooth as well as smoky.

Sherry Cask Finished

The Bowmore Darkest has flourished since it gained a 15 year-old age statement. The sweet sherry notes take precedence over the peat here.
