“Scents of earth give way to a lean set of palate flavors, the texture surprisingly nimble and bright. This wine’s tannins are forceful at the moment, needing a bit of time in the cellar to integrate with the fruit.”
Exhibits aromas of plum, blueberry and raspberry. The palate is filled with sweet raspberry and cherry fruits with warm cocoa tones. This wines brightness and fine tannins come together in a fruit laden finish.
The 2012 Rickshaw Pinot Noir is the fourth vintage from the team at Banshee Wines. As difficult as it is to produce excellent Pinot Noir, it is even more difficult to do so at a fine value. In their development of the Banshee label, the winemakers gained a stable of quality sources for Pinot fruit from the finest AVAs in California. A large percentage of the 2012 Rickshaw is sourced from the Sonoma Coast, followed by Anderson Valley, and Santa Barbara County. To preserve the freshness of the vintage, Rickshaw barreled just 15% of the vintage in new French oak before bottling, 10% in stainless steel, and the rest in neutral barrels. From the winery: “This wine sings with unmistakable and pure Pinotosity! It has a compelling mix of raspberry, pomegranate and cherry notes combined with a stylishly integrated structure.”
From Stephen Tanzer’s Intenrational Wine Cellar: “Deep red. Red and darker berries on the nose. Pliant black raspberry and cherry flavors are brightened by a zesty mineral quality and betray no rough edges. Extremely easy to drink, with very good sweet persistence.”
The 2012 Pinot Noir exhibits a bright floral nose with aromas of fresh cut strawberries. Fruit-forward flavors of cherry and strawberry strike a wonderful chord with the clean minerality and balanced notes of spice and crushed herb. With soft integrated tannins, this medium-bodied wine finishes with a beautiful, long and silky finish.
Sexy aromas of black raspberry, cinnamon, minerals and potpourri. Precise and vibrant on the palate, with good nervy cut to its intense flavors of candied red berries and spicecake. Still youthfully taut but shows excellent potential. Turns more floral with air, finishing with tangy grip and a lingering hint of Asian spices.
92? points. A very somber and inexpressive nose features intensely earth and moderately sauvage aromas of brooding dark berry fruit and violets that precede the rich, full-bodied and overtly powerful flavors that are very Nuits in character. There is a seductively velvet character to the complex, robust and muscular finish that is mildly rustic but wonderfully persistent. Even so, the depth of material here is very impressive and this should be outstanding in due time.
Yamhill Cuvée has an aroma profile that consists of red fruits, minerals, spice, earth, and hint of French Oak. The palate offers youthful tannins and balanced acidity which lead to a smooth and graceful finish. It is approachable in its youth, while maintaining the elegance and finesse of a Domaine Serene Pinot Noir.
