Domaine Guillot-Broux is a 16 hectare certified organic vineyard in the Macon. The vines can be found thriving on three separate appellations within the Macon; Cruzille, Grévilly and Chardonnay. Winemaker Emmanuel Guillot-Broux makes quintessential high-quality Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Gamay in northern Burgundy. The vines are on eastern facing slopes that mainly consist of clay and limestone with a subsoil of compact blue clay. With vines producing between 30 and 55 hectoliters a hectare, the dense planting of the vines increases competition between the vines, making the fruit in each grape highly concentrated. Emmanuel’s goal is to have as few grapes per vine naturally; this increases the concentration of flavors and the balance of the wine.

Pierre Boillot is a rare master of both the Côtes de Beaune and the Côtes de Nuits–not only does he have the vineyards but also the savoir-faire and skill. Pierre inherited this domaine from his father Lucien, whose name it still carries. Pierre worked together with his brother Louis for years, but a few years ago they parted ways and split up the family holdings. Pierre’s talent has become much more evident as he has had full control over this domaine, and in addition to retaining the original cellars in Gevrey-Chambertin, Pierre has instituted a rigorous revitalizing of the soils and vines in all of his vineyards.

Winemakers Notes:

Yamhill Cuvée has an aroma profile that consists of red fruits, minerals, spice, earth, and hint of French Oak. The palate offers youthful tannins and balanced acidity which lead to a smooth and graceful finish. It is approachable in its youth, while maintaining the elegance and finesse of a Domaine Serene Pinot Noir.

Antonio Galloni – Antonio Galloni’s Vinous, April 2012

The 2009 Nuits St. Georges Les Pruliers captures the essence of the year in its rich, voluptuous personality. This is an especially dense, powerful Pruliers. The heat of the vintage has smoothed out some of the angular contours that are often present in young wines from this site. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024.

Burghound – Burghound, January 2012

92? points. A very somber and inexpressive nose features intensely earth and moderately sauvage aromas of brooding dark berry fruit and violets that precede the rich, full-bodied and overtly powerful flavors that are very Nuits in character. There is a seductively velvet character to the complex, robust and muscular finish that is mildly rustic but wonderfully persistent. Even so, the depth of material here is very impressive and this should be outstanding in due time.

Sexy aromas of black raspberry, cinnamon, minerals and potpourri. Precise and vibrant on the palate, with good nervy cut to its intense flavors of candied red berries and spicecake. Still youthfully taut but shows excellent potential. Turns more floral with air, finishing with tangy grip and a lingering hint of Asian spices.

winemaker’s notes:The 2011 vintage gave this Pinot beautiful aromas of boysenberry and cherry, supported by earthy tones of pipe tobacco, black licorice and warm baking spice. The broad palate is filled with flavors of ripe plum, dark chocolate and espresso bean, punctuated by savory herb and oral notes. Rich and round, with firm structure and beautifully balanced acidity.

The 2012 Pinot Noir exhibits a bright floral nose with aromas of fresh cut strawberries. Fruit-forward flavors of cherry and strawberry strike a wonderful chord with the clean minerality and balanced notes of spice and crushed herb. With soft integrated tannins, this medium-bodied wine finishes with a beautiful, long and silky finish.

From Stephen Tanzer’s Intenrational Wine Cellar: “Deep red. Red and darker berries on the nose. Pliant black raspberry and cherry flavors are brightened by a zesty mineral quality and betray no rough edges. Extremely easy to drink, with very good sweet persistence.”
