Pierre Boillot is a rare master of both the Côtes de Beaune and the Côtes de Nuits–not only does he have the vineyards but also the savoir-faire and skill. Pierre inherited this domaine from his father Lucien, whose name it still carries. Pierre worked together with his brother Louis for years, but a few years ago they parted ways and split up the family holdings. Pierre’s talent has become much more evident as he has had full control over this domaine, and in addition to retaining the original cellars in Gevrey-Chambertin, Pierre has instituted a rigorous revitalizing of the soils and vines in all of his vineyards.
Yamhill Cuvée has an aroma profile that consists of red fruits, minerals, spice, earth, and hint of French Oak. The palate offers youthful tannins and balanced acidity which lead to a smooth and graceful finish. It is approachable in its youth, while maintaining the elegance and finesse of a Domaine Serene Pinot Noir.

A very somber and inexpressive nose features intensely earth and moderately sauvage aromas of brooding dark berry fruit and violets that precede the rich, full-bodied and overtly powerful flavors that are very Nuits in character. There is a seductively velvet character to the complex, robust and muscular finish that is mildly rustic but wonderfully persistent. Even so, the depth of material here is very impressive and this should be outstanding in due time.
94 Point: Wine & Spirits – “Christian Moueix and his team at Dominus have experience with rainy vintages in Bordeaux. They also farm a site that is particularly well adapted to draining excess water. So they produced a remarkable 2011, a late vintage challenged by rain close to harvest, It’s proof that a challenge met can create something sublime-like this floral, red raspberry-scented vintage of Dominus. It’s tense chord of flavor incorporating green herb, tobbacco, casis and raspberry in a lasting harmony. The sophistocated structure suggests it will age with grace, while the gentleness of that structure will make it accessible along the way. A great bottle for lamb.”

This is a relatively immediate, expressive Dominus with plenty of near-term appeal. The style is open and succulent for the year, with lovely balance and poise. Crushed rose petals and dried herbs linger in the close. With time in the glass, the 2011 fleshes out nicely. In 2011 Dominus is 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc.”

90 Points, International Wine Cellar – Vivid ruby. Complex aromas of red and dark berries, Indian spices and violet, with slow-building smokiness. Taut and focused on the palate, offering lively bitter cherry and black raspberry flavors that pick up weight with air. Juicy and nicely concentrated Cotes du Rhone with strong finishing punch and lingering spiciness.
Deep and dark red. Shiny. Fresh fruits with red berries and spices on the nose. The palate is full, round and racy. Rounded and smooth tannins. A full-bodied, rich and intensly aromatic wine. Overall, full with a long finish and plenty of elegance and finesse due to the well balanced tannins and fruit.

The 2008 Barolo is loaded with finesse and grace. Dark red cherries, flowers, spices, mint and minerals are some of the nuances that flow from this beautifully delineated, gorgeous Barolo. Floral notes reappear to frame the sublime finish. Altare’s straight Barolo doesn’t get as much recognition as some of his other wines, but it is once again fabulous in 2008. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2028.

Dark purple in the glass. Smoky notes with intense dark berry aromas, framed by oak spice. Fleshy dark fruit continue on the palate with firm tannins and lingering flavours of spice and dark coffee. Medium bodied with well balanced fruit acidity.
