Last year this wine came top in the Wine Spectator Magazine Tasting for ‘Best Value Portuguese Wine out of hundreds of wines. Rich blackberry and mulberry fruit, with a dark black cherry undercurrent. In the mouth the wine has a wonderful dry richness and smoothness on the palate, and a brightness thanks to excellent acidity. Flavors of black cherry, wet earth, mulberries. Delicious!

Winemaker David Guffy selected grapes from three of California’s premium Cabernet winegrowing regions — Mendocino County, Lake County and Napa Valley — to create this wine. Mendocino fruit contributes spice and mid-palate weight, lake County adds the classic red fruit profile of Bing cherry, and Napa Valley maintains our signature style and structure, and flavors of black fruit and cassis.

Full medium ruby.  Very ripe aromas of blackberry, kirsch, dark chocolate and violet.  Rich, dense and intense but rather porty, with some intrusive acidity and an herbal element giving the finish a green quality.  Offers good intensity but shows a disjointed overripe/underripe character.

90 Points, International Wine Cellar – Vivid ruby. Complex aromas of red and dark berries, Indian spices and violet, with slow-building smokiness. Taut and focused on the palate, offering lively bitter cherry and black raspberry flavors that pick up weight with air. Juicy and nicely concentrated Cotes du Rhone with strong finishing punch and lingering spiciness.

Winemaker Notes
Deep and dark red. Shiny. Fresh fruits with red berries and spices on the nose. The palate is full, round and racy. Rounded and smooth tannins. A full-bodied, rich and intensly aromatic wine. Overall, full with a long finish and plenty of elegance and finesse due to the well balanced tannins and fruit.

A brilliant estate in the Lebanon, a joint venture between Ramzi & Sami Ghosn, Daniel & Frédéric Brunier (Vieux Télégraphe) and Dominique Hébrard (ex Cheval Blanc). Having survived the war between Israel and hezbollah in 2006, Massaya celebrated their 10th anniversary midst more warring in 2008. The Tanaïl/Massaya vineyards are located at an altitude of 1000 metres above sea level in the fertile Bekaa Valley where the slopes are protected by Mount Lebanon and the Anti-Lebanon mountains. Free of frost and diseases, the Bekaa Valley enjoys a unique climate with long gentle summers, wet winters and an average temperature of 25 degrees – perfect for viticulture. Daniel and Frédéric Brunier have introduced a showpiece winery copied from Vieux Télégraphe and Les Pallières in Gigondas – alternate small wooden and concrete vats, all designed by the same winery architect. The winery is uniquely situated in the middle of their vineyards. The wines offer a wonderful mix of the Rhône, Bordeaux and the spice of the Levant.

The wine’s aromas are rich yet very elegant with morello cherry, cassis and spice to the fore. On the palate it is concentrated and ripe, with plenty of perfumed, parma-violet character, fine tannins and an excellent length.

Bricco Blina’ is the name of the vineyard. This wine is a direct, straightforward rendition of the Barbera grape. Fresh acidity and berry flavors are the hallmarks of Barbera, but low yields and old vines give this wine very good depth and concentration, too. Fermentation and aging are completed in stainless steel, and the wine is bottled before the following harvest.

(includes 10% cabernet franc): Good bright red. Aromas of blackcurrant, black cherry and licorice pastille. Sweeter and more pliant than the Punto Final Malbec, with fat blackcurrant and licorice flavors sexed up by a note of oaky torrefaction. Finishes with sweet tannins and lingering notes of bitter chocolate and violet.   (4/ 2014)

Rubber and minerally aromas settle on ripe black plum and berry. In the mouth, this Malbec is firm and fresh, with full-force flavors of blackberry, plum, leather and salt. A strong, steady finish confirms overall quality.   (4/ 2014)
