winemaker’s notes:On the steep hills above the winding Mosel river grow the world’s most celebrated Riesling vines. From their noble grapes, we craft a crisp, refreshing and elegant wine. The balanced taste profile of Clean Slate is created by carefully selecting grapes from vineyards throught the Mosel. Grapes from the Lower Mosel provide mineral notes, grapes from the Middle Mosel create a hint of spiciness and grapes from the Upper Mosel supply fresh, peach flavors. The result is clean, fresh flavor that is delicious with food and perfect to share with friends.
Pairs beautifully with Asian dishes, spicy foods, sushi, fish, poultry and pork.
Wine Review: This yellow colored Riesling opens with a ripe peach bouquet with a hint of pear. On the palate, this wine is medium to full bodied, dense and slightly acidic. The flavor profile is a ripe pear with notes of peach and nicely integrated minerality. I also detected a hint of white pepper. The finish remains sweet and its flavors linger for quite some time. This wine would pair well with spicy Thai dishes.
“Clean, fresh and incredibly pure, the 2013 Charles Smith Riesling Kung Fu Girl is shockingly good given the price (and the volume, as they produce a massive amount of this cuvee). Lychee, citrus, mint and classic minerality all show here, and it’s medium-bodied, beautifully balanced and finishes cleanly, with perfectly integrated acidity and only subtle sweetness. Enjoy this rock star effort over the coming year or two. ”
