This Sancerre is powerful in the nose with aromas of limestone and clay, characteristic for the region this wine originates, the village of Bué. A wine with a lot of juice and fresh acidity are balanced with the round tones. This gives the wine a supple taste and a long finish. The wine makes a great aperitif and works well with rich appetizers.

The wine country of Sancerre is situated south of Paris, on the banks of the Loire. It spans a total of 6.671,85 acres and the planted varieties are about 80% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Pinot Noir.

Franck Millet owns 67 acres of winery here and is the fourth generation of Millets on the domain. He makes four wines here, two white wines of the Sauvignon Blanc grape, one rosé and a red wine, both from the Pinot Noir grape. The white wines are very characteristic for this part of the Loire, flawless, crisp dry with a lot of mineralisation. Especially the Cuvée Insolite, from a very calcareous slope, is one of the very best of this region. Both the rosé and the red Sancerre are fine, elegant wines with style that combines beautifully with carefully selected dishes.

TASTING NOTES:

Enticing citrus and tropical fruit aromas lead to fresh, zesty flavors of pineapple, lemon-lime, mango and green fig, backed by a racy acidity. Herbal undertones shine through on the mineral-tinged finish.

VINEYARDS:

Grapes were sourced from select vineyard sites in Robertson (65%), Paarl (20%) and Elgin (15%), characterized mainly by calcareous red Karoo clay and decomposed granite soils. Vines range in age from 6-16 years. Approximately 20% of the vines were dry farmed, low-yielding bush vines. Grapes from the cooler coastal regions bring a zesty citrus and herbal character, while warm climate fruit imparts a tropical fruit profile and a fuller texture.

VINTAGE:

2012 was a great vintage for Sauvignon Blanc. Cool, dry weather throughout the growing season led to a slightly later harvest than usual. Berry size was smaller than normal, resulting in wines with a lovely fruit intensity. The wines achieved full phenolic ripeness while retaining loads of fresh, racy acidity.

VINIFICATION AND MATURATION:

The grapes were harvested in the cool early morning hours, then crushed and gently pressed. After the juice was chilled and settled, it was cold fermented in stainless steel tanks. Approximately 20% of the wine was aged on its lees for three months before blending and bottling.

Vineyard Notes:

Primarily sourced from Lake County, Pomelo’s characteristic grapefruit profile is consistently found in our blocks situated on the Kelseyville bench.  With an elevation of nearly 1300’, the growing season is long, with ample hours of sunshine and great diurnal temperature fluctuations- all responsible for the explosive flavors found in Pomelo.  We also source a small percentage from an old, established block in Lodi- amazing balance and texture, the Sauvignon Blanc sourced from this region is grapefruit pith with a weightiness contributing to the mid-palette.

Winemaking Notes:

100% Sauvignon Blanc.  Fermented in all stainless steel tanks; extremely long and cold ferment allows for the fragrant and big fruit flavors to be appreciated.  The crisp acidity is retained and then rounded out and complimented by a broadened mouth and ever-slight sweetness.

A mouth-watering, vivid style; this wine explodes with delicious flavors of passion fruit, guava, quince, lime peel; with an intensely grapefruit nose.
