Results For Tempranillo

winemaker’s notes:The wine is stainless-steel fermented for approximately 22 days, then transferred to 98% new French Allier and 2% American Oak barrels, where it undergoes malolactic fermentation. It is then aged for 14 months. The wine is lightly fined, and then bottled unfiltered.

alcohol by volume: 13.5%

critical acclaim:
“The 2006 Allende has a boisterous bouquet of macerated red cherries, mango sorbet, marmalade and balsamic vinegar. It demonstrates fine delineation and vivacity. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy ripe tannins: a generous, heart-warming Allende that probably does not quite deliver the complexity on the licorice and spice-tinged finish. Drink now-2020.”

About the Wine: Antidoto’s intriguing name—Spanish for “antidote”—reflects winemaker Bertrand Sourdais’ belief that the wine is an antidote to the trend in Ribera to substitute heavy-handed winemaking for a sense of place and variety. In the right hands, the wines of the Soría sub-zone blend Rioja’s fragrance and finesse with Ribera del Duero’s traditional power and depth. To maximize these qualities, he uses long, gentle macerations to minimize tannin extraction and only used barrels for aging.

Location Notes: Antidoto is located in the province of Soria, in perhaps the coolest microclimate of the Ribera del Duero appellation. Soils differ dramatically from the main zone of Ribera, almost 100 km down river, and the resulting wines are considerably fresher.

Aging: 14 months in 2nds and 3rd passage French barrique.

Vintage Notes: Similar in concentration to the great 2009 vintage, but with perhaps a little fresher style. An extraordinary vintage that will rival 2009.

Tasting Notes: “Bright purple. Expressive aromas of black raspberry, cassis, potpourri and cracked pepper, with a hint of anise in the background. Intensely flavored, penetrating and precise yet quite lithe, with very good spicy lift to its dark berry and floral pastille flavors. Finishes with fine-grained tannins, zesty mineral cut and lingering spiciness.”  -Josh Raynolds

winemaker’s notes:
Intense ruby color. Expressive bouquet with notes of raspberries, bilberries and cherries, enlivened by a touch of spice and a depth of vanilla. Charming fruit in the mouth with good structure that highlights concentrated flavors and fleshy tannins. Nice complexity on the tasting resulting in good length. This Crianza is made from our best “cuvees” from the 2008 vintage and conserves in full the character derived from top quality grapes.

Picaro means ‘rogue’ or ‘rascal’, and this rapscallion of a wine is a youthful interpretation of the Toro region’s style. The grapes come from mature vines of over 50 years of age, but the wine spends only three months in oak, preserving their natural fruit profile.
Vivid crimson-purple in the glass. Aromas are of ripe blackberries and raspberries, with subtle hints of fresh cocoa. The palate is bold yet supple, with ripe tannins and a mineral grip.
Enjoy on its own or with boldly flavoured pasta dishes or spicy meat skewers.

Winemaker’s Notes:
Color: Ruby red with violet hues, clean and very brilliant.

Aroma: Fruity, raspberry, red fruits; very characteristic of the variety. Light notes of toast and spice.
In mouth: medium-bodied, good equilibrium of tannins and acidity. Finishing with notes of raspberry, toast and light notes of wood.

The 2010 Protocolo Tinto is 100% Tempranillo aged for 3 months in American oak. It is a forward, spicy wine with pleasant black fruit flavors, floral and spice aromas, and good balance. Drink this excellent value over the next 3-4 years.

winemaker’s notes:Saturated ruby color. This wine has a strikingly aromatic nose that offers a pungent array of fruit, floral and herbal scents. Sweet cherry-vanilla and cola flavors coat the palate and are enlivened by juicy acidity. Supple tannins gain strength on the finish, which strongly repeats the cola and floral qualities. 100% Tempranillo.

critical acclaim:

“Glass-staining ruby. Explosive, seductively perfumed aromas of candied red and dark berries, incense, rose pastille and Asian spices. Sappy, penetrating black raspberry and blueberry flavors show excellent depth and clarity, with smoky mineral and star anise nuances gaining strength with air. Closes sweet and very long, with lingering spiciness and gentle tannins. Importer Jorge Ordonez told me that lots of high-end oak is used here, from the likes of Taransaud, Darnajou and Dominique Laurent, for example. ”

“The 2010 Volver (100% Tempranillo) is a single vineyard, outstanding effort that was aged in French oak for 14 months prior to being bottled unfiltered. Its deep ruby/purple color is followed by copious aromas of black currants, black cherries, pepper, underbrush and licorice. ”
